Last weekend, (February 27th through March 1st) held the ultra cool Orlando MegaCon! I’ve never been to a convention before but I consider myself lucky to have made this year’s MegaCon my first one. This will be the year of the Conventions for me. I intend to make it to Dragon Con in September. And I hope to make it to one more this year before the CGS Supershow, next year.
Anyway, getting back to MegaCon; It was great fun. I got to meet the guys from CGS. Brian and Pants were great guys and fun to hang out with. Neither of them really look like I expected them too. I also met Adam and Darren, also known on the CGS Forums as Earlobe of Agamotto and Rainbow Cloak, respectively. All were great guys and lots of fun to hang out with.
I went to a couple of panels including one on how to pitch a new comic to a company. I took extensive notes from the panelists, including the very informative and helpful Mark Waid. I’m definitely using all the points I was taught by the 5 panelists in order to get my idea for a graphic novel eventually published.
Speaking of Mark Waid, I also had the good fortune of literally ACCIDENTALLY walking into his BOOM! Studios Panel. I didn’t know about BOOM! Studios before walking into this panel but now I’m definitely picking up some of their titles. Check out some of the exciting books coming from BOOM!
- The Muppets Comic (’nuff said.)
- Pixar’s The Incredibles (Coming this Month)
- More from Disney/Pixar including: Finding Nemo and Cars
- Mr. Stuffins (A secret agent teddy-bear. Seriously, do I need to say more? GO GET IT!)
- Irredeemable (The story of the world’s most powerful SuperHero, who becomes the world’s most powerful SuperVillain! Written by Mark Waid)
- Coming in May: The Unknown (featuring art by Minck Oosterveer and written by Mark Waid)
They’ve also got some great stuff already out like:
- Cthulu Tales (Its Cthulu! RUN FOR YOUR FRICKIN’ LIVES!)
- Eureka and…
- Farscape
All that to say, I was so happy I accidentally stumbled onto Mark Waid’s BOOM! Studios Panel. Mark Waid is evil. And I’m going to buy a crap-load of his comics.
I also hopped into the Indie Film Festival and saw a couple of amazing short indie films. Most of which were animated and incredibly funny.
The rest of the Con was loads of fun as well. Lots of beautiful women in sexy costumes, lots of not so beautiful ladies in unflattering costumes, and lots of geeky dudes in crazy costumes. I met Lou Ferrigno and Margot Kidder among others.
I had breakfast with the CGS guys and their listeners at Golden Corral on Saturday morning and lunch with Adam and Darren at Denny’s and I got a kick ass Batman sketch done by Avery Butterworth. Seriously, its incredible. Observe:

To sum up: MegaCon was a heckova lotta fun. I can’t wait for next year. Here’s just a couple of photos from the convention. I didn’t get very many because I didn’t have a camera until Saturday, but I got a few of the coolest costumes. Ms. Marvel and her amazing ass, Nurse Joker, and my personal favorites, Silk Spectre and The Comedian in there Minutemen suits, among others.
