The Summer of Dexter

11 07 2009

Okay, so… seriously?

Worst month EVER! And there’s still so much of it to go… I really hope I make it to August.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, spare yourself the whiny details.

dexterOn an ironically lighter note: I’ve finally checked out a show called DEXTER. Its become my new obsession. In the last two weeks, I’ve managed to watch the first two seasons in their entirety. The very idea of it blows me away. A show about a serial killer. The protagonist is a SERIAL KILLER!

I’ve never seen anything like this on television. American Psycho, Mr. Brooks, and the Silence of the Lambs Trilogy do a great job at depicting serial killers. But, the fact that DEXTER is a series gives them so much time and room to delve into the characters, especially Dexter, and let you into their minds. Its freakin’ amazing. To see how a serial killer thinks? To understand his psyche? Brilliant.

Its funny, dark, twisted, scary, really scary, dramatic and heart-felt all at the same time. Don’t get too attached to any one character. You never know when they’ll be getting whacked. Expect the unexpected from the writers, and you’ll be surprised anyway. Get ready to let your mind venture into places you never thought they’d go watching a television show.

SHOWTIME, you’ve won me over once and for all with this one. You’ve given me WEEDS, NURSE JACKIE, and now I’ve discovered DEXTER for myself. In the two short seasons I’ve watched so far, it’s managed to soar up to the very top of my favorites list.

Its probably the most exciting thing happening in my life right now.

Hmmm…
